Maciej Dekert

Born in Cordoba, Spain, to a Polish father and a Spanish mother, Maciej got his first SLR film camera, a Soviet Zenit, as a family present for his 18th birthday. Soon after, he became passinate about the Black & White darkroom´s process, so in year 2000 he moved to Madrid and got a degree, Higher National Diploma, on Image Management at the CEV´s School.

He got hired right after that as an intern assitant in an advertising digital photo studio, using large format cameras in a Sinar environment. During his holidays he traveled to the South to take part of the workshops held by the Spanish news agency Cover for reportage. It was there where he got interested in the journalistic approach and the documentary narrative.

In 2004 his next step took him to the School of the ICP, the International Center of Photography, in New York City. There he was part of the One-Year Certificate Full Time Program on Photojournalism and Documentary Photography.

In 2006, while freelancing as corporate photographer, he started “El Árbol del Ritmo” ( EADR ), which is a life-term documentary project on percussion with an approach to music from an anthropologycal point of view and based on the principles of rhythm and wood as their main subjects.

He is currently based in Ericeira, Portugal, and keeps actively freelancing and available for assignments.
